REALTORS® Relief Foundation Funding Now Available for Storm-Affected Residents in Ashland & Bayfield Counties

While we usually spend our days helping you find or sell your dream home, these past few weeks since the April windstorms looked a bit different for us. Like many of you, we’ve been busy picking up the pieces after the April storms.

The severe wind that swept through the area didn't play favorites. It took a serious toll on our shop in Ashland, leaving us with major roof and siding damage—a pretty messy reminder of just how powerful and unpredictable spring weather can be.

But our office was far from the only casualty. In Washburn, the devastating storm front damaged over 100 homes. Seeing our friends and neighbors face this kind of loss is incredibly tough, but it's also moments like this that remind us why we do what we do.

I immediately reached out to Washburn Mayor Mary Motiff to see how we could get a natural disaster declared—a crucial step to make our area eligible for emergency aid. From there, I teamed up with the Lake Superior Association of Realtors (LSAR) to petition the national REALTORS® Relief Foundation for help - having recently learned of the program and petition process from a recent REALTOR® training,.

Thanks to that quick teamwork, $50,000 in emergency funding has been officially approved to help storm-affected residents in Ashland and Bayfield counties.

What the assistance covers: The grants are designed to help with practical, immediate housing needs, including:

  • Monthly mortgage payments for homeowners who are struggling due to the storm.

  • Rental costs or hotel reimbursements if you’ve been displaced from your primary residence due to the storm damage, whether you’re a homeowner or a renter.

These funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, we wanted to share the application form and application checklist directly so you can get your paperwork in quickly.

Questions? While we’re happy to help, we’ve also called in the experts from the Lake Superior Area Realtors (LSAR) who are managing the fund, including Riley Barnhardt.
